Education

BA in Physics from Wellesley College (2013) Graduate Student in Physics at FSU

Experience

I've worked at Kumon Tutoring Centers both in Math and English and volunteered at an after-school program in Camden, NJ and another in Wellesley, MA as a tutor/teacher for elementary aged students needing extra academic support. I have also worked as a Physics assistant and tutored both Physics and Mathematics to college students at Wellesley College. My most recent experience would be working for an organization called StudyPoint, which offers premier level one-on-one tutoring in SAT, ACT and academic subjects. In my first year working there, I was honored with the Best Rookie of the Year award for the success I've had in helping my students reach maximum increase on the SAT/ACT exam as well as increase confidence and enthusiasm for their school subjects. I now do mostly freelance tutoring work because I feel that the most beneficial type of program is the one that is tailored maximally to the student. My tutoring style is always evolving to fit my students' learning styles so that they can achieve more. I don't only teach the subjects, but I have more of a mentor/mentee relationship with my students. I hope that if I can build that sort of trusting relationship, then he or she will have fun doing the work, build confidence along the way and learn to love learning for learning's sake. That kind of relationship with academics is what breeds success and ultimately inner confidence and passion. Tutoring really is one of my passions, and I strive to inspire my students to relate to their academic subjects in some way, notice things about the world they didn't realize before and challenge them to think at deeper levels about the work they are doing. Currently a graduate student in physics at FSU. Currently working as lab instructor for introductory physics.

Hobbies

Besides tutoring, I also work with The National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST) analyzing out of school programs to help develop ways for children of all socioeconomic backgrounds to have access to quality out-of-school programs that bolster positive academic, physical, mental, emotional and social growth. On my free time, I love to play music (right now I am playing the keyboard synth!), write poetry, philosophize about physics and consciousness, and spend time with my family and friends!
