Education

I have a B.A./dual major from Florida State University in Spanish language and Latin American & Caribbean Studies, as well as a Portuguese language minor. I graduated in Fall 2013 with a 3.4 GPA with distinction. I also received a 100-hour certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the Center for Intensive English Studies at FSU in May, 2014.

Experience

I have tutoring experience in elementary and advanced Spanish language and grammar with high school students and adults. I took AP Spanish Language in high school, so I have experience with the expectations for standardized testing in college preparatory exams. I also aced the Spanish CLEP exam upon entering FSU so I'm confident with that standarized test as well. I have basic and informal experience in tutoring Brazilian Portuguese with friends and colleagues in Tallahassee. I have tutored English as a second language in Tallahassee with FSU international students and also children of international families living in Tallahassee, FL. I tutored English as a second language in July 2014 with Brazilians I met while living in Goiás, Brazil. I want to expand upon my experience as a tutor in foreign languages for English Speakers and also as a tutor for English with non-native speakers. I would like to tutor with children and younger students as much as high school students and adults.

Hobbies

I have a wide range of interests including music, art, visual media, outdoor activities, and learning foreign languages and cultures. I am a die-hard Brazilian music and film lover, and because of my experience with language & culture I enjoy teaching and learning in a cross-cultural and interactive context. I love to use popular music and films to help with tutoring; this is how I learned what I know in foreign languages! I like to learn my student's interests from the start so I can better engage them in an academic context of learning and enjoying learning!
